Phnom Phen - the Cambodian Capital

May 31, 2007

We arrived here by bus from Siem Reap, a journey of 4 hours. Compared to the Poi Pet to Siem Reap journey this was a luxury trip. Upon arrival into the bus station we had posters advertising guest houses thrust hard against the bus windows.A frenzy ensued when we stepped off the bus.

A mob of Motto Drivers hounded us. Ben’s bag was snatched up by an over friendly driver and we had no choice but follow him.The fare was only $2US to our first Guest house. It appears these guys work of commission. The city itself is nothing special. There does seem to many more motorcycles and traffic lights are all ignored. Also the power has been cut at least 4 times since we arrived. The locals just accept it.

This is day four in the capital. We are staying in a ‘foreignerville’ near a large lake. Rooms are cheap, food is plentiful.

So far we have visited the Silver Pagoda, the National Museum, S-21 prison, the Killing Fields, and the Happy Shooting Range.

Check the links below to see what we got to up to.
